 | What if I Can't Login? |
 | Login Issue:
- Login Error Message Is Displayed: "Could not login. Valid authentication credentials were not provided."
This message can represent several issues. The system is currently having a problem where one login attempt with an incorrect password will generate this message and lock the user out for one hour. Please wait an hour and try again, taking care to enter the correct password. The system will also display this message if the user's account is disabled in the system. If you still have trouble accessing the system after a one hour wait, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 443-2677 for assistance. Users trying to access Blackboard with an AOL browser may also receive this error message. Please try logging in using a different browser or another computer to verify that your account is working properly. Please also check the sections below titled "Activating Your NetID" and "FERPA Supression".
- Login Error Message Is Displayed: "An error occurred while the system was processing this login request."
This message can indicate that a user's NetID is not registered in the system. Please check that your NetID is entered correctly. Please also check the sections below titled "Activating Your NetID" and "FERPA Supression". This message can also indicate that cookies are disabled or there are other settings misconfigured in your browser. If you still have trouble accessing the system, please contact the ITS Help Desk at 443-2677 for assistance.
- Login Error Message Is Displayed: "No Authentication Credentials were provided with the request."
This message usually indicates that there is a problem with your web browser's settings or supporting software. To help isolate the problem, try logging in using a different web browser or from a different computer.
- No Login Error Message Is Displayed: Login page is reloaded, and Username and Password fields are cleared.
This behavior indicates that your NetID and Password are working properly, but there is a problem with your account inside Blackboard. Please contact the ITS Help Desk at 443-2677 for assistance.
- Activating Your NetID: If you have not already done so, please activate your NetID. You will not be able to login to the Blackboard system until your ID has been activated. To activate your NetID, visit the NetID Services web page and click on the "Activate Your NetID" link. Please note that it may take up to 24 hours for your Blackboard account to get created after NetID activation.
- FERPA Suppression: Students who have signed a Request to Prevent Disclosure of Directory Information form at the Registrar's Office will not be pulled into the Blackboard data feed. This means that they will not become part of the Blackboard environment and an account will not be created for them (or an existing account will become disabled). Students have the option of signing a Blackboard FERPA Release form which will give them access to Blackboard. Students should be aware that their name and email address may be shared with other students and guests within the course. Students who wish to sign a Blackboard FERPA Release form can do so at the Center for Science and Technology CST Room 1-130. Proper identification (SUID card) is required.

 | I get a "Page Cannot be Displayed" error when trying to login to Blackboard. Why? |
 | To login to Blackboard using Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher, you must have the "Use SSL 2.0" option checked on your browser's security panel. To turn this option on, click on the "Tools" button located on the top menu bar of your browser. Scroll down to "Internet Options" and click your mouse. Select the "Advanced" tab in the Internet Options dialog box. Scroll down until you reach the "Security" section and check the box for "Use SSL 2.0" option. | I am having trouble navigating through Blackboard, why? |
 | When navigating through Blackboard, it is highly recommended that you do not use your browser's "back" button. Always use the links and navigation buttons that are provided in Blackboard. Blackboard pages are generated dynamically from a database and using the browser's back button may generate an error message. |

 | I am getting a delivery error message when I send email through Blackboard. Why? |
 | When sending an email through Blackboard you may get a delivery error message indicating that the email message did not get sent. This is because one or more recipient email addresses are invalid. Please note that the email does get sent to the remaining valid recipient email addresses, even though you get an error message saying "Unable to send email". If you have specific concerns or need more information about users in your course not recieving your email messages, please contact the Help Desk at 443-2677 and ask to speak with a Blackboard Support Coordinator. |

 | How can I add students to my class? |
 | Students are automatically enrolled and un-enrolled in Blackboard courses via the PeopleSoft registration add/drop process. Neither faculty nor ITS staff are able to add or delete students in Blackboard courses.
It is not possible to enroll students into courses in which they are not officially registered because course and student data are entered into Blackboard using a snapshot from PeopleSoft. Multi-section and cross-listed courses must be managed within Blackboard separately. For example, if an instructor is teaching three sections of a course, the snapshot will generate three separate courses in Blackboard and students will be enrolled in the appropriate section based on their registration. Instructors may use Blackboard's course copy feature to replicate materials in each section before making the course available to students. |
|

 | How can I give a student TA rights in my course? |
 | You can add a TA, course builder or grader to your course using the Add User by Role course tool from the Blackboard course control panel. |

 | How do I login to my Blackboard class? |

|
 | Why can't I see some of all of my classes in Blackboard? |
 | All courses and student enrollments are automatically created in Blackboard. However, you may not be able to see a particular course in which you are enrolled because the instructor has not made the course available to students. This could be because the instructor is not using Blackboard. Please check with your instructor for more information. |
|
 | Why is Blackboard saying that I'm not enrolled in any courses? |
 | This message is misleading. All courses and student enrollments are automatically created in Blackboard. The courses in which you are enrolled are not displayed because the instructors have not made the courses available to students. It is likely that the instructors are not using Blackboard. Please check with your instructors for more information. |
|
 | How do I forward my incoming emails from my SU account to my usual email account? |
 | If you prefer to use a different e-mail address other than your syr.edu, you must have your syr.edu e-mail redirected to your preferred account. This can be done under the Manage Your NetID section of the ITS web page. Click on the Manage Your NetID link at the bottom of the page and follow the instructions for Forwarding your syr.edu email instructions. Note: It is the student's responsibility to redirect their e-mail. If this is not done, you will not receive important information. |
|
 | I'm getting a Receipt: Failure error What does this mean? |
 | When uploading files into Blackboard, you may get a Receipt: Failure (The action you attempted did not succeed: File 'filename.doc' upload failed: size='0' (possibly a missing source file?)) error. This is because the file that you are uploading may contain a virus. As a result, the Blackboard system will quarantine any infected file and, therefore, it will not get uploaded or sent to the instructor. If you receive this error, you should run your virus software, clean up the file, and upload it again. |
