Network and Wiring Services (NWS) plans, designs, installs, maintains, and services the campus
community's network and communications infrastructure for voice, Ethernet (network) and wireless
services. NWS also provides a host of other wired connectivity services for door access/monitoring,
life safety systems, vending and laundry machines, the Campus Blue Light System, and ATM's across
campus. Network Wiring Services also plans, maintains, and services all Residential Network (ResNet)
connections for students living in the Residence Halls.
We work in conjunction with the Office of Telecommunications to schedule voice repairs and installation
requests. Please refer to the Telecommunications web site:

Requesting Services and Scheduling Policy
All requests for installation and service must be in writing. Please send your request via e-mail to
netconn@listserv.syr.edu. The e-mail must specify:
- what type of connection is needed
- how many connections
- the room number
- the exact location and number on the faceplate of the jack/port to be activated
You may also complete the on-line Request for Services form. In order for your work request to be
scheduled; all of the requested information must be supplied.
If there is no cabling or jack in the room please make note of this in your e-mail, since additional
charges will apply. A technician will be assigned to perform a site visit and cost estimate. If a new
pathway for voice/data cable or an electrical outlet is needed, you may be instructed to contact
Physical Plant for installation. The technician will advise you as part of their survey and estimate
as to what course of action is needed.
Please include with your request the chart string to be debited and the person or entity that will
be using the network connection(s). There is no need to send an ID; all charges will be billed directly
through the Pinnacle Telecommunications system and will appear on your monthly Telecommunications
statement. Installation requests will be scheduled within 3-7 business days after all
of the required information is provided. You may expect a wait of at least 7-10 business days during
peak times.
Any requests for installation during the summer must be made 6 weeks prior to the start of fall
semester in order for the work to be scheduled and completed prior to the start of classes.
Please note: An official request includes the chart string that you wish to be charged and must be
made by the authorized signer for that department/account.
Site surveys/estimates are provided at no charge with the exception of more complex
surveys. Any surveys that include entire buildings, new construction projects, or large wireless
network installations will be billed at an hourly rate. Please send all requests for estimates
to netconn@listserv.syr.edu and a technician will be
in touch with you regarding the site survey. Requests will not be accepted from student employees,
graduate assistants or any other unauthorized staff members.
