The supported operating system for VPN is Windows XP. VPN software can be downloaded at no charge to SU students, faculty, and staff.

Students, faculty, and staff who have questions about VPN can call Information Technology and Services at 443-2677 or e-mail consult@syr.edu. Those who are reporting issues with running VPN should include the time and date when the problem occurred and the text of any error messages received.

Student support
Students who need help installing or running VPN when connecting to the AirOrange wireless network can go to one of the ITS Student Computing Support Centers for assistance. There is no charge for this service.

Faculty/Staff support
Staff and faculty who need assistance installing or running the VPN client on a University-owned, laptop computer should first contact their local departmental computing support person. Those who do not have a departmental computing support person can contact Information Technology and Services (ITS) at consult@syr.edu or by calling 443-2677.

ITS provides support for computers running Windows XP. Minimum hardware requirements are Pentium II, 400 Mhz with 256MB RAM.

Drop-off support for home computers can be arranged by calling 443-2677 or by sending e-mail to consult@syr.edu. This service is billable at $30 per hour, payable by either department ID or personal check. This support is limited to ensuring that the remote access software is running correctly on an employee's personal computer when connected to the University's RoadRunner broadband connection. Issues involving an employee's home network are his or her responsibility.
