AirOrange, Syracuse University's high-speed wireless network, was recently upgraded to a more secure
technology (802.1x), which provides an encrypted connection from mobile computing devices
(laptop computers, hand-held devices, smartphones) through the airwaves to the SU network.
Additionally, the wireless network is now available in all University residential facilities,
South Campus apartments, and in many University buildings located both on and
off campus.
The new wireless network-AirOrangeX-is:
- More secure,
- Easier to use, and
- Eliminates the need for clients to login every time they connect to the wireless network
(unless the NetID password is changed). The system automatically logs clients onto AirOrangeX.
To use AirOrangeX, clients must first configure their laptop computer for 802.1x technology.
Follow these steps the first time you use AirOrangeX:
- Enable "wireless network" on a PC or "AirPort" on a Macintosh
- Open "view available wireless networks"
- Connect to "AirOrangeHelp"
- Open your Web browser and type in http://airorangehelp.syr.edu
- Type in your NetID and password
- Follow the instructions on the screen to download the appropriate 802.1x configuration tool (PC or Macintosh).
