Syracuse University has established email as a primary vehicle for official communication with students,
faculty, and staff. An official email address is established and assigned by Information Technology and
Services (ITS) for each registered student, and current faculty and staff members. All University
communications sent via email will be sent to this address.
New undergraduate students are assigned an official email address after they have
returned their Intent to Register form and tuition deposit, and been confirmed as matriculated
and have activated their NetID. Please allow adequate time for receipt and processing of the form and deposit before
attempting to access your official email address.
New graduate and Law School students are assigned an official email address after they
have been admitted and have activated their NetID.
All Students - To access your official email address, you must first pick up
your NetID. To do that, go to the NetID Services page at
http://netid.syr.edu.
Information about using SUmail is available on the Web at http://its.syr.edu/email/sumail/. For further
questions, contact the ITS Help Center at 443-2677 or email help@syr.edu.
MyMail - Students with existing MyMail accounts can opt into SUmail at http://getsumail.syr.edu.
Faculty and Staff -Official email accounts for Faculty and Staff are established in the University's
internal email system, operated and supported by ITS and departmental computing support staff. Faculty
and Staff are not eligible for SUmail accounts. In addition to ITS email, faculty and staff may obtain
email accounts on departmental servers. Check with your department's computing support staff to see what
options are best for you.
Faculty, staff, and students may redirect their official syr.edu email to another address, such
as @hotmail.com, @Yahoo.com, or @aol.com. The University recommends that students access their
official syr.edu email address by using SUmail. Those who choose to redirect their syr.edu email to
another address do so at their own risk.
