MyMail provides students with 50MB of space on a central server to store e-mail. Mail in the
Trash and Sent folders count against this quota. Due to the architecture of the MyMail system,
student space on the MyMail server may not be increased. The MyMail storage space is separate
from the storage space that students use in the Public Computer labs and for personal Web pages.
The MyMail Quota Bar
Students can monitor the amount of space they have in their MyMail account by looking at the
quota bar at the top of the screen. When students get close to their 50MB quota, the quota bar
turns yellow and an Alert will be displayed describing how much space remains in the MyMail
account. Any new e-mail messages that will cause the mail account to go over the 50 MB of
space will be bounced back to the sender with a message that the recipient's mailbox is over
quota and cannot accept new e-mail messages.
When the 50 MB of storage space has been exceeded, the quota bar turns red and an "Alert"
will be displayed indicating that the MyMail account is over quota. Students will NOT receive
any new e-mail until they remove the excess e-mail from their mailbox. While students can
continue to send mail from MyMail when they are over quota, the messages will not be saved
in the sent items folder.
Directions for deleting messages:
- Open the folder you want to clean up.
- Place a checkmark next to each message you want to delete
- Click DELETE on the tool bar.
- Deleted messages are sent to the Trash folder
Directions for manually emptying the Trash folder:
- Open the Trash folder
- Place a checkmark next to the messages you want to permanently remove from MyMail
- Click DELETE on the tool bar.
- You may also empty all of the e-mail from Trash by clicking on the "Empty Trash" icon at the top of the MyMail screen
WARNING: Seven (7) days after a message is sent to the Trash folder, the message will be automatically deleted from the MyMail system. Do not use Trash as a place to "store" e-mail messages.
