Steps for setting up Outlook 2007 with Mymail : ( works for both on campus and offcampus students )
  1. Start Outlook2007
  2. Click on Tools->Account Settings
  3. The default tab selection should be "Email". If not select it.
  4. Click on "New"
  5. Select "Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP or HTTP" and click "Next"
  6. Select the "Manually configure server settings or additional types" and click "Next"
  7. Select "Internet E-Mail" and click "Next"
  8. Now enter the following information
    1. User Information:
      1. Your Name : enter your name here
      2. Email Addr : netid@syr.edu
    2. Server Information:
      1. Account Type : IMAP
      2. Incoming Mail Server : IMAP-SERVER.SYR.EDU
      3. Outgoing Mail Server : SMTP-HOST.SYR.EDU
    3. Logon Information:
      1. Username : netid
      2. Password : your password
  9. Make sure that "Remember Password" is selected and "Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA)" is NOT SELECTED.
  10. Click on "More Settings"
  11. Click on "Advanced" Tab
    1. Under "Incoming Server IMAP", for "Choose the following type of encrypted connection" select "SSL"
    2. Under "Outgoing Server SMTP", for "Choose the following type of encrypted connection" select "Auto"
  12. Now Select the "Outgoing Server" Tab
    1. Select "My outgoing server(SMTP) requires authentication"
    2. Make sure "Use same settings as my incoming server" is selected
    3. Click "OK"
  13. Click "Next" and then click "Finish"
Note: If you are off campus, your internet service provider (ISP) may not allow outgoing mail to be sent through SMTP-HOST.SYR.EDU. In that case, please consult your ISP for the proper outgoing mail settings or connect to the Syracuse University VPN before using your e-mail client.
