Moving your MyMail messages to SUmail

Official email accounts for students are established in a system called SUmail. SUmail is managed by the University and utilizes Microsoft's Live@edu email service. This partnership provides students several powerful and convenient features, including:

  • 10 GB inbox and 20 MB attachments
  • Optimized Outlook experience including customizable user interface
  • Shared calendar and contacts
  • Message tracking
  • Folders to organize email
  • Forwarding, POP3, IMAP, and Outlook Connector for mobile phone and personal computer access
  • Spam filtering and phishing protection
  • Collaborative workspace
  • Keep your email address after you graduate

As a registered SUmail user, you'll be able to take advantage of other Live@edu services at no cost, including Office Live Workspaces; Windows Live SkyDrive; Windows Live Spaces; Microsoft SharedView beta; Windows Live Messenger; and Windows Live Alerts; and Microsoft's support for all these services.

To access SUmail, use the following web browsers:

  • Windows - Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox
  • Macintosh - Safari or Mozilla Firefox

To enroll in SUmail: http://getsumail.syr.edu

SUmail log in: http://SUmail.syr.edu. Note: SUmail utilizes Microsoft's Live@edu services. When asked for your "Windows Live ID" or user name, use your official SU email address (NetId@syr.edu)

PLEASE NOTE: Many people manage their SUmail incoming and outgoing e-mail directly through the SUmail Web interface. However, if you use a third-party e-mail package to access your SUmail account, please review this important information: Using SUmail with other E-mail Packages (i.e. Outlook, Apple Mail, etc.)

SUmail Tips:

  • You can Redirect / Forward your SUmail. If you're using another program to get your email, and considering redirecting your SUmail account to that other program, we encourage you to use SUmail for a while and get familiar with its features before you decide to redirect your mail.
  • You can log in to your MyMail account to forward any existing email to your new SUmail account. Your MyMail account will be accessible until December 31, 2009, but will not receive new email messages. For instructions on how to move your MyMail messages to SUmail, visit http://its.syr.edu/email/sumail/mymail2sumail.pdf.

University e-mail policy note

The SU e-mail policy requires that all official University e-mail communications be sent to your @syr.edu e-mail address. If you choose to re-direct your @syr.edu e-mail to another account, such as @gmail.com, or @yahoo.com, you do so at your own risk.
