Dan Cohen

Dan has served in myriad management roles of progressively increasing responsibility since 2001 and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) through the Project Management Institute (PMI).

Dan joined Syracuse University in 2011 at the School of Information Studies (iSchool) as Associate Director of Employer Relations, advising veterans enrolled in what is now known as the Veterans Career Transition Program (VCTP). In this role, Dan was responsible for enhancing student experience through enrollment management, persistence coaching and career coaching. Dan was also responsible for managing the program’s communications including press releases and social media.

In 2013, Dan became the Program Manager overseeing the VCTP. In this role, Dan was responsible for leading the VCTP team of 5 staff members as well as many projects associated with student recruiting and persistence, programmatic expansion, University integration, advising and program outcomes. In 2014 Dan took on the role of Director of Distance Education programs within Syracuse University’s Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF), overseeing the IVMF’s portfolio of online programs including VCTP as well as Boots to Business and VetNet. During this time, Dan was responsible for leading the VCTP and Boots to Business teams (11 staff members), ensuring these programs met their goals, and providing advice and coaching to the program managers as they led their respective teams and projects. In addition to these duties, he also led projects within the programs including three Learning Management System procurements and data migration to Salesforce. Since 2011, Dan has chaired or served on over 20 search committees at Syracuse University.

Prior to joining Syracuse University, Dan worked in operations management within the supply chain for Kohl’s Department Stores where he led a team of over 200 Associates and engaged in general management responsibilities as well as accounts payable claims, inventory control, workplace safety, and hiring activities.

Upon graduation from the Rochester Institute of Technology with Bachelor of Science degree in 2001, Dan entered the US Army as an officer serving two tours in Iraq; first as a platoon leader and then as a foreign military advisor. Dan serves on the Veterans’ Advisory Council at Clearpath for Veterans in Chittenango, New York.
