Syracuse University's Office of Research will help faculty finance an institutionally
purchased computer. Details of this program are provided below:
Computers must be purchased by academic departments for institutional use.
Faculty eligible for the subsidy program are full-time, tenure-track, continuing faculty,
who have not received financial assistance for a computer purchase from the Office of the
Vice President for Research during the previous three academic years.
The subsidy program includes a contribution of up to one-third or a maximum
of $600 per acquisition toward the purchase price of the computer, including extra
memory, modems, software and network connection charge.
Computers remain the property of the University and must be returned to the
University (the academic unit) if the faculty member leaves the University.
Faculty who want to purchase a computer are encouraged to first consult with their
departmental computing support staff regarding specifications and University purchasing
procedures. The University has negotiated formal, preferred contract pricing with both
Dell and Apple to provide reduced support costs and improved service. Further
information about institutional computer purchasing is available on the ITS Web site
at http://its.syr.edu/purchases/institutional.cfm
Further information about the computer subsidy program is available by calling the Office
of the Vice President for Research at 443-2492 or by e-mailing Kathy
Leavens at klleaven@syr.edu.
