All students living in SU residence halls or on South Campus must
register their personal computers (desktops and laptops) on the SU Network/ResNET before
they can use their computers in residence halls, classrooms, or anywhere else on campus.
The computer registration process requires all students to have a University NetID and
password. Information about activating your NetID is located on the NetID Services Web page.
SU Students can connect to the Internet in two ways:
- Registering vie ResNET
- Plug in an Ethernet cable to the computer and to the wall ljack labeled with the
letters "RN" followed by at least five numbers.
- Open your Internet Explorer Web browser (http://hostreg.syr.edu)
- Type in your NetID and password and follow the instructions on the screen. Wait at least
15 minutes after completing the process before attempting to connect to the Internet.
- Registering via AirOrange
- Enable "wireless network" on your PC.
- Open your Internet Explorer Web browser (http://airorange.syr.edu)
- Type in your NetID and password and follow the instructions on the screen. Wait at
least 15 minutes after completing the process before attempting to connect to the Internet.
If these steps did not work, please go to the following Web page:
Simple Troubleshooting Steps.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Students who live in SU residential housing during the academic
year are required to have University-approved McAfee antivirus software installed on
their computers. The antivirus software will be automatically downloaded to their computers as
part of the registration process.
Immediately before registering a computer, it is essential that residential students uninstall
all versions of antivirus software running on their computers. Failure to uninstall other
versions of antivirus software can result in incompatibility issues that may damage the computer.
Students who purchased computers at the SU Bookstore and students with computers that have already
been installed with the University version of McAfee 8.0i through ResNET do not
have to uninstall the software before registering their computers when they arrive on campus
for the fall semester.
Off-campus students may purchase the University's PCProtect CD at the SU Bookstore. The CD
contains the correct version of McAfee antivirus software for use on either home desktop
computers or the laptop computers that are brought to campus and registered on the SU network.
