Notifications posted by the ITS Service Center in response to unplanned downtimes, interruptions or service degradations.

There are no alerts at this time.


Notifications of planned downtimes, interruptions or service degradations posted in advance after approval and review by the ITS Change Management Team.

06/16/13 - blackboard (spring/fall only) to be unavailable

In order to upgrade Blackboard to Service Pack 11, the application and its web page will be unavailable between 12:01 a.m. ET Sunday, June 16, 2013 and 2:00 p.m. ET on Monday, June 24, 2013. This upgrade will deploy the latest released Blackboard service pack on the main Blackboard system for Fall 2013 use. This change will not impact the current Summer System of Blackboard. Summer courses in Blackboard will remain available.

06/18/13 - windows services to be unavailable

All ITS-managed Windows servers that are joined to the AD.SYR.EDU domain will be restarted in order to apply system patches. Servers will reboot in phases starting at 2:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday, June 18, 2013. Services on each server will be unavailable for roughly 10 to 20 minutes sometime between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.

06/18/13 - south campus residential network and internet interruptions

In order to upgrade connections, each South Campus residence will experience a brief (~5 minutes) network outage with no internet connectivity sometime between 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday, June 18, Wednesday, June 19 or Thursday, June 20, 2013. Network and Internet connections to any systems in each residence will be unavailable for about five minutes sometime during these periods, as follows: June 18 - Winding Ridge, Sky Halls and Slocum Heights (phase1); June 19 - Slocum Heights (phase2), Small Road, and Farm Acre Road; June 20 - Lambreth Lane and Chinook Drive.

2013 Production Freeze Periods

To ensure a stable production environment, there will be a freeze on changes to the Syracuse University enterprise wide production computing environment during the following time periods:

Schedule adjustments and fall opening Monday, August 19 through Wednesday, August 28
Spring 2014 registration Wednesday, November 13 through Friday, November 22

Any exceptions to the freeze period will be reviewed at the ITS Change Management meeting.

ITS publishes Notifications (for scheduled downtimes) and Alerts (for unscheduled downtimes) here on the System Status page; via RSS feeds; and by email to the NOTIFY_ITS listserv.

  1. Click this link: listserv@listserv.syr.edu
  2. Delete the signature line from the body of the email if it is included automatically. You do not need to enter a subject.
  3. Include the following line in the body of the message:            subscribe NOTIFY_ITS Your_name 
  4. You may omit your name if your email program automatically includes it in your email header.
  5. Send the email.

You will probably receive a request to confirm your subscription. Click on the confirmation link in the email and you’re done.

Outage Notification Process


ITS will notify the campus community of any confirmed outage.  Outage alerts will be posted on this page under Unscheduled System Alerts or Scheduled System Downtimes. ITS will notify the campus community when the issue is resolved

Actual problem resolution time can vary, depending on the nature and cause of the disruption.  ITS views any situation that results in a widespread disruption of message delivery as critical, and applies all due resources and effort towards an accurate diagnosis and expeditious resolution of the problem.
