Faculty and staff who need high-speed Internet services while on the road can now pack broadband access in their pockets. The new Verizon Wireless Broadband Access service, sponsored by ITS, provides clients with a high-speed connection to the Internet via their laptop computer in regions where Verizon cellular service is available. The service costs $5 per day (minimum three days, maximum 14 days). No additional data charges are applied.
Those interested in using the service can contact ITS Telecommunications at 443-1870 or e-mail telecomx@listserv.syr.edu to arrange to obtain a loaner software installation CD and a broadband access card. Clients are required to complete the loaner request agreement form. Program charges will appear on the departmental monthly telecommunications statement.
Clients are responsible for installing the software on their laptop computer and for returning the broadband access card on the specified return date. If the card is not returned, a $300 replacement fee will be applied to the client’s departmental account.
