introduction Complete the following steps to log in to the ITS Unix environment using Telnet. Telnet is a tool that allows you to access a Unix computer using Unix commands.
before you start Before trying the following steps, be sure that you have a NetID.
steps windows
  1. Select Start>Run from the Start menu.
    The Run dialog box appears.
  2. If on campus, type "telnet gamera" and click OK; otherwise, type "telnet gamera.syr.edu" and click OK.
    The Telnet window appears.
  3. At the login prompt, type your NetID and press Enter.
  4. At the password prompt, type your NetID password and press Enter.
    The "gamera%" prompt appears.
macintosh
  1. Double-click the Applications folder.
  2. Double-click the Utilities folder.
  3. Double-click Terminal.
  4. Type in telnet gamera.syr.edu
  5. At the login prompt, enter your NetID and press enter.
  6. At the password prompt, enter your password and press enter.
    7. The "gamera%" prompt appears.
note You may also use rodan.syr.edu in place of gamera.syr.edu.
