Wireless Access at SU

Get the most out of SU's wireless network!

To take full advantage of AirOrangeX, the wireless network at Syracuse University, you will need a network adapter (also known as a NIC) that supports 802.11n at 5 GHz. NICs that support both the A and N specifications will meet this requirement, and will be indicated as:

  • a/b/g/n
  • a/b/g/draft-n
  • a/g/n

Apple computers already use 5 GHz, but some Windows computers may not. If your computer is not already so equipped, you should consider getting a wireless-N dual-band (or 5 GHz) adapter. USB units are widely available.

The following NIC specifications will also work on SU’s network, but will never be able to take full advantage of 802.11n modes used at SU:

  • a/b/g
  • a/g
  • b/g/n
  • g/n
  • b/g
