The following message from Senior Vice President and Chief Digital Officer Jeff Rubin was initially sent to all students, faculty and staff on Aug. 29, 2024.
Welcome to the fall semester! Whether you are a student, faculty member or staff member at Syracuse University, the start of a new academic year is full of excitement and opportunity.
This is particularly true today. As the University’s senior vice president of digital transformation and chief digital officer (as well as an alumnus and a School of Information Studies faculty member), I am proud to say that we believe Syracuse University is the nation’s most connected campus.
The University’s information technology (IT) community has made great strides to enhance our digital experience in recent months, including the following:
OrangeNow Mobile App
Since the launch of OrangeNow earlier this month, nearly 13,000 students, faculty and staff have downloaded the app for up-to-the-minute information about their class schedule, campus dining options, upcoming activities and more. Be sure to download the OrangeNow mobile app today!
AirOrangeX WiFi Network
The upgraded AirOrangeX wireless network no longer requires users to log in with a username and password. This means all students, faculty, staff and visitors have quick, convenient access to the internet anywhere on campus.
Private Wireless Network
Syracuse University offers the largest private wireless network in higher education, with enhanced connectivity for AT&T and T-Mobile customers, to bring improved coverage and speeds to indoor locations on campus.
JMA Wireless Dome Connectivity
If you are like me, you are excited for game days at the JMA Wireless Dome. With our state-of-the-art 5G system available to Verizon and AT&T customers, our fans will enjoy a world-class technology experience as they cheer on the Orange.
The work continues. I look forward to sharing more updates in the future as we work to make it easier to take advantage of technology’s possibilities.
If you run into any technology issues, please know that we are always here to help. Students can contact the Information Technology Services Help Desk by emailing help@syr.edu or calling 315.443.2677. Faculty and staff can contact their academic or administrative support personnel.
On behalf of all campus IT staff, I wish you a successful semester. Go Orange!
