Disconnecting Hotspots

When someone uses a cellular hotspot on campus, the signal competes with the AirOrangeX wireless network. Disconnecting a device’s cellular hotspot and connecting to a campus network such as AirOrangeX instead is a great way to improve the campus computing experience for everyone. Wherever you study on campus, the wireless AirOrangeX network provides fast, secure connection for computers, smartphones and tablets. To learn how to connect to AirOrangeX, please visit its.syr.edu/connected.

Spotlight on the MakerSpace

Located in the Kimmel Computer Lab, the MakerSpace is a collaborative space where students, faculty and staff can create fun, inventive projects using a variety of specialized machines, including 3D printers, a laser engraver, an embroidery machine and more. Best of all, it’s FREE! Learn more about the MakerSpace.

Pro Tips for Campus Technology

Hundreds of information technology professionals work every day to support Orange students. The University tech community includes the campuswide reach of Information Technology Services as well as dedicated staff for each school, college and administrative unit. With a new school year under way, we collected some “pro tips” to enhance your technology experience.

Gaming and Streaming on Campus

Do you know about the Gadgets&Games campus network for streaming devices and gaming systems? Have you tried out the SpectrumU video streaming app and website that deliver live TV to your devices when connected to campus networks? Learn about these and other campus resources on the Campus Living page on Answers.

ITS Phish Bowl

Phishing scams disguised as account termination warnings, job offers or requests for help circulate among the University community from time to time. Please remember that universities never ask for personal account information via email. In addition, ITS will never ask for your password via email. Any email communication asking for this type of information should be deleted. You can learn more about recent phishing scams by visiting the ITS Phish Bowl.

ITS Service Center

Located at 1-227 CST in the Life Sciences Complex, the ITS Service Center offers a wide range of in-person support services. Visit the ITS Service Center website for more information, including expanded hours for the fall semester.

Download the New Orange Safe App

The Department of Public Safety recently launched Orange Safe, a free mobile app that turns any smartphone into a personal safety device. Orange Safe replaces the Rave Guardian app, which will no longer be available to University users beginning Friday, Sept. 23. Learn more about Orange Safe.
