Friday Five: IT Support Analyst Jon Ryan

In this week’s Friday Five interview, we talk to IT Support Analyst Jon Ryan.

1. Tell us about what you do for ITS and how long you have been with Syracuse University?

I have been with Syracuse University for a little over a year. I work as a Support Analyst for the ITS Help Desk. I assist students, staff, faculty and others with using technology at Syracuse University.

Jon Ryan2. What have you learned in your role with ITS?

I’ve learned quite a bit in my time here. There are a lot of applications that I didn’t use in my last job. Learning to use them for day-to-day responsibilities and in some cases to support our users with them has been a large part of my time here.

3. What has inspired you or made you hopeful since COVID-19 and the increasing global momentum toward social justice?

I’ve seen a few things that I didn’t expect to see in my lifetime. Southern cities removing Confederate monuments and the Washington NFL team changing its name are two good examples. Although these are symbolic rather than systemic changes, they feel like something that might be built upon.

4. What are you looking forward to next semester at Syracuse University?

I like the opportunity to make new students feel welcome. Coming to college for the first time and possibly being away from your home is understandably difficult. I like to do my best to make sure students know that Syracuse is a great place to be and we appreciate having them here.

5. Best part of your summer?

A surprise Taylor Swift album in July was pretty cool!
