System Alerts & Statuses

ITS publishes Notifications (for scheduled downtimes) and Alerts (for unscheduled downtimes or outages) here on the System Status page and by email to the NOTIFY_ITS listserv.

ITS will notify the campus community of any confirmed outage.  Outage alerts will be posted on this page under Unscheduled System Alerts or Scheduled System Downtimes. ITS will notify the campus community when the issue is resolved. Actual problem resolution time can vary, depending on the nature and cause of the disruption.  ITS views any situation that results in a widespread disruption of message delivery as critical, and applies all due resources and effort towards an accurate diagnosis and expeditious resolution of the problem.

Weekly Outage Windows

Information Technology Services (ITS) computing and network systems may be unavailable for weekly routine maintenance activities or upgrades during the day- and time- periods listed below:

  • Tuesday: between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m.

South Campus Brief Interruption of Wireless Networks - scheduled

Description: Work to upgrade the NAT server may make the Wireless networks unavailable at all locations on South Campus for a brief period (less than 5 minutes) sometime between 6:00 a.m. and 6:40 a.m. ET on Tuesday, October 19, 2021.

MySlice, Campus Solutions, HR/Payroll and Financials system to be unavailable - scheduled

Description: In order for Information Technology Services to perform work to apply regular scheduled patches and fixes, the MySlice portal and all of the services accessed through the portal will be unavailable between 5:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. ET on Sunday, October 17, 2021. This outage includes MySlice, the Human Capital Management (HCM) system, the Campus Solutions (CS) system, the Financials system and MyReports. During the downtime, MySlice and all applications that are accessed only through MySlice will be unavailable. Windows services to be unavailable - scheduled

Description: All ITS-managed Windows servers that are joined to the AD.SYR.EDU domain will be restarted in order to apply system patches. Servers will reboot in phases starting at 2:00 a.m. ET on Sunday, October 17, 2021, and again Tuesday, October 19, 2021. Services on each server will be unavailable for roughly 10-20 minutes sometime between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. ET.

Splunk (splunk.syr.edu, smart.syr.edu) interruption - scheduled

Description: Work to update and convert from CentOS 8 to Oracle Linux 8 will render Splunk (splunk.syr.edu, smart.syr.edu) partially unavailable between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. ET on Sunday, October 17, 2021. Data housed on the affected indexers will not be searchable during the outage and users will receive an error indicating this during searches. There should be no impact after the conversion, as the operating systems are functionally equivalent.

Frevvo forms interruption - scheduled

10/17/2021
Description: In order to apply a configuration fix, the ITS Frevvo Forms Service will be interrupted for approximately 15 minutes sometime between 7:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. ET on Sunday, October 17, 2021. The Frevvo Forms web interface (its-forms.syr.edu) will not be accessible and all forms in the system will be unavailable during the brief outage.

To receive Notifications and Alerts by email, subscribe to the NOTIFY_ITS listserv:

  1. Click this link: listserv@listserv.syr.edu
  2. Delete the signature line from the body of the email if it is included automatically. You do not need to enter a subject.
  3. Include the following line in the body of the message: subscribe NOTIFY_ITS Your_name
  4. You may omit your name if your email program automatically includes it in your email header.
  5. Send the email.

You will receive a request to confirm your subscription. Click on the confirmation link in the email and you’re done.
