System Alerts & Status

ITS publishes Notifications (for scheduled downtimes) and Alerts (for unscheduled downtimes or outages) here on the System Status page and by email to the NOTIFY_ITS listserv.

ITS will notify the campus community of any confirmed outage.  Outage alerts will be posted on this page under Unscheduled System Alerts or Scheduled System Downtimes. ITS will notify the campus community when the issue is resolved. Actual problem resolution time can vary, depending on the nature and cause of the disruption.  ITS views any situation that results in a widespread disruption of message delivery as critical, and applies all due resources and effort towards an accurate diagnosis and expeditious resolution of the problem.

Scheduled System Downtimes

Orange Tracker to be unavailable - scheduled

Description: In order to upgrade the application to JIRA 7.7, Orange Tracker will be unavailable from 6:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. ET on Sunday, August 05, 2018. Email sent to OT project addresses will be held, and delivered at the conclusion of the outage. Following the upgrade users will have full access, however Re-indexing will continue, causing a small performance impact for a couple of hours.

Sharepoint 2010 no longer available - scheduled

Description: The SharePoint 2010 ( system will be shut down permanently and will no longer be available beginning 6:00 a.m. ET Tuesday, July 31, 2018. This does NOT include the Board of trustees (BOT) SharePoint environment. Admins of each site have been contacted to verify those who wanted data exported or migrated have a plan to have data exported/migrated.

HCM, CS, FIN, MySlice and MyReports to be unavailable - scheduled

Description: Starting at 5:00 p.m. ET Friday, July 27 2018, the PeopleSoft Human Capital Management (HCM) and Campus Solutions (CS) systems, Financials (FIN), and parts of MySlice will be unavailable so that maintenance and upgrades can be performed. We expect this work will be completed by 5:00 p.m. ET Sunday, July 29th 2018. As soon as the maintenance activities are completed the system will be available for campus-wide use. This outage includes the PeopleSoft the Human Capital Management (HCM) and Campus Solutions (CS) system. In addition, the following online services which are accessed through MySlice will be unavailable: All Self-Service applications, Employee Services, Personal Services, Holds, Course Catalog and Class Search services, Faculty Center, Global Survey, Orange Alert. The MySlice services accessed through the University mobile application will be unavailable. Furthermore, there will be intermittent times when MyReports will be unavailable, and a separate communication to MyReports users will detail this.

Cascade to be unavailable - scheduled

Description: Work to upgrade the application to version 8.10 will render Cascade Server unavailable between 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday, July 31, 2018. Users will receive a "temporarily unavailable" message in their web browser when attempting to connect to the server. All Web sites associated with Cascade Server will continue to run and process web page requests as normal. However, no new content will be pushed to the Web Servers from Cascade during the outage.

Windows services to be unavailable - scheduled

Description: All ITS-managed Windows servers that are joined to the AD.SYR.EDU domain will be restarted in order to apply system patches. Servers will reboot in phases starting at 2:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. Services on each server will be unavailable for roughly 10-20 minutes sometime between 2:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.

CallXpress to be unavailable - scheduled

Description: Moving the routing of the campus voice mail system will result in a brief outage (less than 5 minutes) for the CallXpress unified messaging system sometime between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. During this brief outage voicemail will be unavailable.

Brief Wireless Network interruption - scheduled

Description: Work to move Subnet 1 routing to Arista fabric will briefly (less than 5 minutes) interrupt wireless authentication sometime between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. ET, on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. Users will be unable to authenticate to any systems on Subnet 1 during this time. Users who are connected to wireless networks at the time of the move will be unaffected.

Interruption of NetID services, and other IdM services - scheduled

Description: Due to firewall reboots, NetID (self-serv) services and DMC web applications as well as logins to systems using the enterprise directory (sudir), and shibboleth/ping for authentication (including Blackboard, Peoplesoft, Orange Tracker,, Salesforce, Qualtrics, and Google Apps) will all be interrupted for about five minutes sometime between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday, July 24, 2018.

Brief interruption on subnets 18, 21, and 171 - scheduled

Description: All services on subnets;; and will be interrupted for about one minute sometime between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m ET on Thursday, July 26, 2018. This outage will occur when the subnets are moved to the new Arista routers.
