System Alerts & Status

ITS publishes Notifications (for scheduled downtimes) and Alerts (for unscheduled downtimes or outages) here on the System Status page and by email to the NOTIFY_ITS listserv.

ITS will notify the campus community of any confirmed outage.  Outage alerts will be posted on this page under Unscheduled System Alerts or Scheduled System Downtimes. ITS will notify the campus community when the issue is resolved. Actual problem resolution time can vary, depending on the nature and cause of the disruption.  ITS views any situation that results in a widespread disruption of message delivery as critical, and applies all due resources and effort towards an accurate diagnosis and expeditious resolution of the problem.

To receive Notifications and Alerts by email, subscribe to the NOTIFY_ITS listserv:

  1. Click this link: listserv@listserv.syr.edu
  2. Delete the signature line from the body of the email if it is included automatically. You do not need to enter a subject.
  3. Include the following line in the body of the message: subscribe NOTIFY_ITS Your_name
  4. You may omit your name if your email program automatically includes it in your email header.
  5. Send the email.

You will probably receive a request to confirm your subscription. Click on the confirmation link in the email and you’re done.

Scheduled System Downtimes

Interruption of NetID services, and other IdM services - scheduled

Description: Due to work to upgrade its firewall, NetID (self-serv) services and DMC web applications as well as logins to systems using the enterprise directory (sudir), and shibboleth/ping for authentication (including Blackboard, Peoplesoft, Orange Tracker, Lynda.com, Salesforce, Qualtrics, and Google Apps) will all be interrupted for as long as fifteen minutes sometime between 6:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. ET on Sunday, April 22, 2018.
 

Wireless Network interruptions likely in Women’s Building - scheduled

Description: Work to replace ITS wireless access points (APs) will interrupt wireless network connectivity in areas of the Women’s Building sometime between 6:00 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday through Friday, April 24 – 27, 2018. This will be a rolling outage on each day. While each AP is replaced, users in its coverage area may experience loss of wireless connectivity if they are not within operating range of another AP. Most areas are covered by more than one AP. The access points will be swapped out one at a time to minimize dead zones, according to this schedule: Tuesday, April 24 – 3rd floor; Wednesday, April 25 - 2nd floor; Thursday, April 26 – 1st floor; and Friday, April 27 - Basement.
