System Alerts & Statuses

ITS publishes Notifications (for scheduled downtimes) and Alerts (for unscheduled downtimes or outages) here on the System Status page and by email to the NOTIFY_ITS listserv.

ITS will notify the campus community of any confirmed outage.  Outage alerts will be posted on this page under Unscheduled System Alerts or Scheduled System Downtimes. ITS will notify the campus community when the issue is resolved. Actual problem resolution time can vary, depending on the nature and cause of the disruption.  ITS views any situation that results in a widespread disruption of message delivery as critical, and applies all due resources and effort towards an accurate diagnosis and expeditious resolution of the problem.

Weekly Outage Windows

Information Technology Services (ITS) computing and network systems may be unavailable for weekly routine maintenance activities or upgrades during the day- and time- periods listed below:

  • Tuesday: between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m.

TK20 to be unavailable - scheduled

Description: Work by the vendor to migrate TK20 (https://syr.tk20.com/) to AWS will render the service unavailable between 1:00 a.m and 7:00 a.m. ET Tuesday, August 3, 2021.

North and South Campus wireless Interruption - scheduled

Description: A reboot of all wireless controllers will result in a brief interruption (under 15 minutes) of wireless connectivity for each wireless controller sometime between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 AM on Tuesday, July 27, 2021. Reboots will occur one controller at a time, beginning on South Campus and then moving to North Campus. Connectivity losses will occur in all campus locations with wireless service.

The Syracuse Mobile App will be decommissioned, at the end of the current license period, on July 31, 2021. - scheduled

Description: There is no action required of content providers. End-users will need to use alternative, existing channels for content currently accessed through the Syracuse Mobile App. Additional information on alternative, existing channels (and urls) exists in the answers documentation entitled Syracuse Mobile App Decommission found here: https://answers.syr.edu/x/LQRlC

Windows services to be unavailable - scheduled

Description: All ITS-managed Windows servers that are joined to the AD.SYR.EDU domain will be restarted in order to apply system patches. Servers will reboot in phases starting at 2:00 a.m. ET on Sunday, July 25, 2021, and again Tuesday, July 27, 2021. Services on each server will be unavailable for roughly 10-20 minutes sometime between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. ET.

To receive Notifications and Alerts by email, subscribe to the NOTIFY_ITS listserv:

  1. Click this link: listserv@listserv.syr.edu
  2. Delete the signature line from the body of the email if it is included automatically. You do not need to enter a subject.
  3. Include the following line in the body of the message: subscribe NOTIFY_ITS Your_name
  4. You may omit your name if your email program automatically includes it in your email header.
  5. Send the email.

You will receive a request to confirm your subscription. Click on the confirmation link in the email and you’re done.
