System Alerts & Status

ITS publishes Notifications (for scheduled downtimes) and Alerts (for unscheduled downtimes or outages) here on the System Status page and by email to the NOTIFY_ITS listserv.

ITS will notify the campus community of any confirmed outage.  Outage alerts will be posted on this page under Unscheduled System Alerts or Scheduled System Downtimes. ITS will notify the campus community when the issue is resolved. Actual problem resolution time can vary, depending on the nature and cause of the disruption.  ITS views any situation that results in a widespread disruption of message delivery as critical, and applies all due resources and effort towards an accurate diagnosis and expeditious resolution of the problem.

Weekly Outage Windows

Information Technology Services (ITS) computing and network systems may be unavailable for weekly routine maintenance activities or upgrades during the day- and time- periods listed below:

  • Tuesday: between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Orange Tracker Interruption - scheduled

Description: Orange Tracker system maintenance will interrupt Orange Tracker between 5:00AM and 9:00AM ET on Sunday, July 28, 2019. Orange Tracker users will be unable to access the application. Mail sent to Orange Tracker will be queued and processed after the outage.

Windows services to be unavailable - scheduled

7/23/2019
Description: All ITS-managed Windows servers that are joined to the AD.SYR.EDU domain will be restarted in order to apply system patches. Servers will reboot in phases starting at 2:00AM ET on Tuesday, July 23, 2019. Services on each server will be unavailable for roughly 10-20 minutes sometime between 2:00AM and 7:00AM ET.

Answers.syr.edu interruption - scheduled

Description: Work to upgrade the Confluence version from 6.4.3 to 6.13.5 will render Answers.syr.edu unavailable between 6:00AM and 10:00AM ET on Sunday August 4, 2019. Users will not be able to access Answers, nor create or consume content during this time. This upgrade includes minor visual updating, vulnerability fixes, mobile app compatibility, and a multitude of overall backend performance enhancements.

collage.syr.edu brief interruption - scheduled

7/23/2019
Description: Work to migrate the Collage server to a new Ubuntu 16.04 server will cause a brief interruption of collage.syr.edu sometime between 6:00AM and 6:30AM ET on Tuesday, July 23, 2019. Collage could be unreachable for a very short period and user connectivity could be affected temporarily while DNS propagates.

To receive Notifications and Alerts by email, subscribe to the NOTIFY_ITS listserv:

  1. Click this link: listserv@listserv.syr.edu
  2. Delete the signature line from the body of the email if it is included automatically. You do not need to enter a subject.
  3. Include the following line in the body of the message: subscribe NOTIFY_ITS Your_name
  4. You may omit your name if your email program automatically includes it in your email header.
  5. Send the email.

You will receive a request to confirm your subscription. Click on the confirmation link in the email and you’re done.
