Traveling Over Break? Download the Microsoft Authenticator App to Avoid Headaches

If you will travel during the Thanksgiving or winter breaks and plan to access your Syracuse University accounts (email, Microsoft applications, etc.), be sure to configure your multi-factor authentication methods prior to traveling. You can manage or update your security verification methods at msmfa.syr.edu.

Multi-factor authentication strengthens the username/password sign-in process by requiring you to submit something that only you would have. Often, this is a one-time code generated by an app or texted to your phone.

ITS recommends you download and configure the Microsoft Autheticator app on the mobile device you will take with you while traveling. The mobile application does not require an internet connection once configured. Call or text authentication will require your mobile device to have service at your destination. If you use the office phone method, an alternative method will be required while traveling.

You can find more info about multi-factor authentication by on Answers. For additional assistance, you can contact the ITS Help Desk by calling 315.443.2677, by emailing help@syr.edu or by visiting 1-227 in the Center for Science and Technology.
