What role can generative artificial intelligence (AI) play in teaching, learning, creating and working at Syracuse University? How do you get started with generative AI? What is possible and what is happening already?

To explore these topics, the Syracuse University community is invited to a series of discussions and activities on Thursday, Nov. 7, and Friday, Nov. 8, featuring experts from Microsoft. All sessions will take place at Falk College with the exception of the Thursday evening student promptathon (Newhouse 3-141).

THURSDAY, NOV. 7

BLOCK 1

6-8 p.m.

Student Promptathon—This interactive, hands-on experience is designed to engage students in actively using AI to solve various challenges. The session features a strong focus on practical applications and personalized learning. Students should bring their own laptop, tablet, etc.


FRIDAY, NOV. 8

BLOCK 2

9:00-9:45 a.m.

Generative AI Panel—A panel featuring Syracuse University Chief Technology Officer Eric Sedore, Orange faculty and student representatives and experts from Microsoft will discuss the ethics, advantages and possibilities of generative AI on campus.


BLOCK 3

10:00 a.m.-noon

Faculty and Staff Promptathon—This interactive, hands-on experience is designed to engage participants in actively using AI to solve various challenges. It is perfect for those looking to start utilizing generative AI at work or to refine their prompting skills. Unlike the other options in Blocks 3 and 4, this is a two-hour session. AI-Enabled Devices—Designed for information technology professionals, this session will focus on AI-enabled devices, including accessibility, privacy and misconceptions about AI on devices. UPDATE: No seats remain for this session.

Data & AI—Open to all faculty and staff, this session will discuss data strategy with an emphasis on secure data sharing and integrating data from various sources.

Personal Productivity with Generative AI—This session highlight tips for unlocking personal productivity through generative AI, including using Microsoft Copilot within Microsoft applications.

11:00 a.m.-noon
