System Alerts & Statuses

ITS publishes Notifications (for scheduled downtimes) and Alerts (for unscheduled downtimes or outages) here on the System Status page and by email to the NOTIFY_ITS listserv.

ITS will notify the campus community of any confirmed outage.  Outage alerts will be posted on this page under Unscheduled System Alerts or Scheduled System Downtimes. ITS will notify the campus community when the issue is resolved. Actual problem resolution time can vary, depending on the nature and cause of the disruption.  ITS views any situation that results in a widespread disruption of message delivery as critical, and applies all due resources and effort towards an accurate diagnosis and expeditious resolution of the problem.

Weekly Outage Windows

Information Technology Services (ITS) computing and network systems may be unavailable for weekly routine maintenance activities or upgrades during the day- and time- periods listed below:

  • Tuesday: between 4 a.m. and 7 a.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday: between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Description: In order to apply an upgrade, 530, 540, 550, 560, and 580 Slocum Drive wired and wireless internet will experience a brief interruption sometime between 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. ET on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

450, 500, 510, and 520 Slocum Drive Networks Brief Interruption - scheduled

Description: In order to apply an upgrade, 450, 500, 510, and 520 Slocum Drive wired and wireless internet will experience a brief interruption sometime between 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. ET on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.

330, 331, 411, and 420 Chinook Networks Brief Interruption - scheduled

2/10/2026
Description: In order to apply an upgrade, 330, 331, 411, and 420 Chinook wired and wireless internet will experience a brief interruption lasting 10 minutes or less between 5:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.

430 Slocum Drive Network to be Unavailable - scheduled

100, 120, and 121 Winding Ridge Networks to be Unavailable - scheduled

2/12/2026
Description: In order to apply an upgrade, 100, 120, and 121 Winding Ridge wired and wireless internet will be unavailable from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. ET on Thursday, February 12, 2026.

430 and 441 Chinook Drive Networks to be Unavailable - scheduled

2/13/2026
Description: In order to apply an upgrade, 430 and 441 Chinook Drive wired and wireless internet will be unavailable from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. ET on Friday, February 13, 2026.

Turnitin to be Unavailable - scheduled

2/07/2026
Description: In order to apply an upgrade, Turnitin will be unavailable from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, February 7, 2026. Students will not be able to submit papers and prior submissions will be unavailable for grading. Blackboard assignments and other functions are not impacted by this change.

Changes to NetID Accounts to be Unavailable - scheduled

2/18/2026
Description: In order to apply updates to the NetID management process, changes to NetID accounts, including password changes, will be delayed for up to 15 minutes between 6:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. ET on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. Changes will be queued and applied once the updates are complete.

Maxwell Hall Network to be Unavailable - scheduled

2/06/2026
Description: In order to apply an upgrade, Maxwell Hall’s 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floor wired and wireless internet will be unavailable from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. ET on Friday, February 6, 2026.

To receive Notifications and Alerts by email, subscribe to the NOTIFY_ITS listserv:

  1. Click this link: listserv@listserv.syr.edu
  2. Delete the signature line from the body of the email if it is included automatically. You do not need to enter a subject.
  3. Include the following line in the body of the message: subscribe NOTIFY_ITS Your_name
  4. You may omit your name if your email program automatically includes it in your email header.
  5. Send the email.

You will receive a request to confirm your subscription. Click on the confirmation link in the email and you’re done.
