Volunteering in Tech: Girls Who Code

Laughter fills the small library at Northside Learning Center. Snacks and laptops line the desks of a talkative group of middle school girls while Syracuse University students guide them through their lesson plan using graphical code. At the end of the session, the middle schoolers confidently present their progress to their fellow coders.

This is a typical Girls Who Code meeting for a group of driven Syracuse University female students who volunteer their time to make a difference in the Syracuse community. Working with Girls Who Code, the Syracuse University chapter aims to guide young girls in the Syracuse community toward careers in STEM.  Continue Reading

Survey Says: ITS Partners with EDUCAUSE to Gauge Student Technology Needs

In order to gauge and address the information technology needs of today’s and tomorrow’s Orange students, Syracuse University Information Technology Services (ITS) has partnered with EDUCAUSE to conduct a survey regarding technology.

Undergraduate students (full- or part-time) are encouraged to complete the web-based survey. Participation is voluntary, and responses are completely confidential. Students who complete the survey will be eligible to enter a drawing to win either a $50 or $100 gift certificate to Amazon.com. Continue Reading

Software and Soft Skills: ITS Service Center Students Learn on the Job

The ITS Service Center offers technology-related support to the Syracuse University community. But for the student employees who work there, the center provides an equally valuable service — the opportunity to hone their professional and interpersonal skills.
